A lawsuit challenges Northwestern University's mandatory training program that allegedly forces students to accept definitions equating criticism of Israel or Zionism with antisemitism. The complaint argues that the training violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits any organization that receives federal funds from discriminating on the basis of race, color, or national origin—and says the training bans "expressions of Palestinian identity." On 15 October 2025, CAIR-Chicago reported that Kapitan Gomaa Law, CAIR-Chicago, and Hawks Quindel had filed the case in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on behalf of Graduate Workers for Palestine and affected students.
