A Turkish influence group is reporting it had contact with US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on the occasion of a fundraising event held by a US Muslim Brotherhood group. According to a Turkish American National Steering Committee tweet:
October 24, 2021: We congratulate MAS for another very successful event. It was nice to chat with U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer ) on the sidelines of the event.

The Turkish American National Steering Committee (TASC) is strongly tied to Turkish President Erdoğan, and the TASC tweet features photos of Schumer with TASC Vice-Chairman of the Board Gokhan Dogan, who is also the president of Young MÜSİAD USA. MÜSİAD is a Turkish businessman’s group that has financially supported the Turkish AKP party and received the support of Turkish President Erdoğan.
The day before the TASC tweet, the Muslim American Society (MAS) New York branch held its annual fundraising banquet at the New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott. The decor shown in the TASC tweet matches that of the hotel, strongly suggesting the two events are the same. The speakers at the MAS event included:
- Siraj Wahhaj (various positions in US Muslim Brotherhood organizations, unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing)
- Abrar Omeish (daughter of former MAS president Esam Omeish)
- Abdelrahman Badawy (MAS)
The Muslim American Society (MAS) was identified in a report authored by the GIOR editor as a part of the US Muslim Brotherhood and closely tied to the Egyptian organization.
In 2009, Schumer was one of three US Senators who wrote a letter to Robert Mueller, then Director of the FBI, supporting the decision by the FBI to sever contacts with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an important part of the US Muslim Brotherhood. However, in 2016 Schumer was supporting Congressman Keith Ellison in his bid to become chairman of the Democratic National Committee, despite Ellison’s close ties to the US Brotherhood.
