CHEGA!

CHEGA!  (Portuguese for “Enough!”) is a Portuguese far-right party founded in 2019 by André Ventura after splitting from the center-right PSD. Initially propelled by anti-establishment populism, it has consolidated into a national conservative force built around law-and-order maximalism, hardline positions on immigration and “gender ideology,” and a civilizational frame of nation, family, and religion. Electorally, CHEGA surged in 2025 to become Portugal’s main opposition, reshaping the party system. At the EU level, the party aligned with the national-conservative bloc by joining the Patriots for Europe group after the 2024 European elections, positioning itself alongside Fidesz, RN, and FPÖ. Its trajectory is thus a mix of populist style and doctrinal national conservatism, with growing leverage over Portugal’s policy debate and clear integration into the continental network of the right.
