Muslim Association of Britain

The Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) had for many years been the most active organization in the UK Muslim Brotherhood. Founded in 1997 by former Hamas chief Muhammad Kathem Sawalha, the MAB’s leadership has included figures such as Anas Altikriti, whose family has deep Brotherhood ties in Iraq. In 2007, many MAB leaders left to form the British Muslim Initiative (BMI), reflecting internal disputes over political strategy. Despite repeated public denials, both the MAB and Altikriti have acknowledged ideological alignment and personal links with the Muslim Brotherhood. The group’s influence extends into political advocacy, coalition-building, and think-tank activities, notably through the Cordoba Foundation led by Altikriti.
