Patriots for Europe

Patriots for Europe is a right-wing to far-right political group in the European Parliament, launched on 8 July 2024, essentially comprising former members of the Identity and Democracy group and additional parties, including Fidesz, ANO, Vox, FPÖ, Chega, PVV, and Vlaams Belang. Led by Jordan Bardella, president of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally since 2021 and a leading figure in the European national conservative movement, it positions itself on a platform of national conservatism, Euroscepticism, opposition to deeper EU integration, stricter migration controls, and resistance to the European Green Deal. The group reflects the broader European national conservative movement in its emphasis on sovereignty, traditional cultural identity, and opposition to supranational governance. With 84 MEPs from at least seven member states, it became the third-largest group in the Parliament, giving it formal status and institutional resources (speaking time, committee presence) to influence EU policy debates. Critics argue its manifesto signals a push to hollow out supranational democracy and reallocate power to national governments.
