Vlaams Belang

Vlaams Belang is a Flemish nationalist and right-wing populist political party in Belgium, formed in 2004 as the successor to the banned Vlaams Blok. The party champions Flemish independence, strict immigration control, and opposition to multiculturalism while emphasizing the defence of traditional cultural identity and national sovereignty. As it grew, Vlaams Belang attempted to moderate its image—toning down rhetoric in some areas—without abandoning its core nationalist agenda. It has become a significant force in Flanders, influencing public debate even though it is largely excluded from governing coalitions. In recent years, the party has become more explicitly aligned with national conservative currents in Europe, emphasizing themes of sovereignty, cultural continuity, and skepticism toward supranational institutions.
